Revisionist History Sucks
Several years ago, on my old blog, I wrote an extensive treatise on why I thought the song “I Wish I was a Punk Rocker With Flowers In My Hair” was a piece of crap. It frankly had nothing to do with the singer, or the whole story of how she got to where she was. I was just calling bullshit on the revisionist history aspect of the lyrical content (when computers didn’t exist, and we didn’t know everything, or something like that - wha?!??!). It became my most read, discussed, loved, and hated entry on said blog. Eventually, I ended up deleting it, because I really didn’t want a blog entry on a silly pop song to be my main contribution to pop culture discussion on the internet.
Several years later, however, my thoughts still stand. I heard it on some webcast this morning. I wanted to run from the house screaming “Shut your fucking stupid ignorant mouth and pick up a history book, dammit!”
